The basis for all preaching is centered on Biblical truth, both Law and Gospel. We need to hear about our conviction and being set free, proclaiming the need for a savior and the sure promise of Christ’s grace. We hold the Bible up as the Word of God, available to guide our daily lives until Jesus comes again. Preaching to connect these truths with all that will listen is an essential component of this ministry.
We currently have several wonderful pastors who deliver the message to the congregation on a rotating basis. This has been a true blessing for our congregation as we continue with the call process. Our transition Pastors are:
- Joe Bonno. Joe served on staff at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Canton, Michigan, for 16 years. Prior to that he worked at DTE Energy for more than 30 years. He was part of a team that ministered Word and Sacrament to new churches in Grand Blanc and South Lyon. After his retirement, Joe and his wife Kathy (along with their dog, Murphy) relocated to Petoskey, Michigan, and currently worship at Walloon Lake Community Church.
- Brad Matuzak. Brad was ordained in 1993 and served as a youth pastor at Beaver Lake Community Church for seven years. Since then, he has been bi-vocational and works as the national sales manager for Panel Processing, Inc. Brad is also an elder and lay Pastor at Word of Life Baptist Church in Alpena. Brad is married and happily raising a family of six children.
- Jerry Yarnell. Jerry received his B.A. from Rutgers, and then went on to Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg and obtained his M. Div. degree in 1976. He served two years as associate pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Traverse City, Michigan.
